In 2008/2009 several hundreds of students from Europe and North America studied at Swansea for all or part of the year. Residential Services endeavours to assist all exchange and visiting students to arrange suitable accommodation.
In order to obtain assistance from Residential Services students must complete an Accommodation Application Form. This form is attached to the Admissions Form and should be sent to you via your exchange coordinator or you can apply on line by clicking here
Your form should be sent back within the timescale below if you wish to be considered for university accommodation.
The booklet "Living in Swansea" is available to exchange students on request. Please contact us by email, phone or letter.
University accommodation is guaranteed for exchange students who:
There is no guarantee of accommodation for other Socrates / Erasmus students or for those studying here for only part of the year.
Students who fall outside the above guarantee are requested to complete the on -line accommodation application form to request information for private sector accommodation, please see the link below. Residential Services will send out appropriate advice late July / Early August.
As a general rule, there is a better likelihood of accommodation being available for the second semester than for the first.
Exchange and visiting students are eligible to apply for all of the University's residences. Contracts for self-catering accommodation include the Easter vacation, while some Singleton Residences do not.
Rooms in University residence are offered and accepted for the full academic year and students must sign a legally-binding contract before moving in. Students here for one semester only will be given contracts for the whole of the semester. It is not normally possible to move out of University accommodation once you have signed a contract, though you may be able to change rooms.
Students who choose University residence are asked to give as much information as possible on their accommodation application forms, as this is used in the process of room allocation.
The rent for the different types of University accommodation are shown on the fees page. Payment will normally be required once a term, but those students here for the first semester only must pay for the full period when the invoice is received. Invoices are sent to students in October, January and April. Those who have a UK bank account will find that the easiest way to pay is by Direct Debit. Contact the Finance Office for more information about Direct Debit payments. It is also possible to pay residence fees with a Visa card or Mastercard.
All students are required to pay a £100 reservation deposit in order to reserve a room and which will then be offset against your first terms Accommodation Fees.
