A good range of accommodation is available for new postgraduate students, with first priority normally given to international students. As demand from international students is expected to be particularly high for the session 2008/9 we do not expect to be able to offer places in accommodation to home postgraduate students. To offset this, home postgraduate students will be eligible to apply for one of the positions of Welfare Wardens (16 positions in total) or Senior Welfare Wardens (2 positions). It is also anticipated that a small number of reduced fee places will be available to home postgraduate students acting in a Senior Student capacity in designated international flats (approx 3 positions). The University will offer all other postgraduate students assistance in finding suitable private sector accommodation.
The University currently provides most of its postgraduate accommodation at Ty Beck House. However from Septemebr 2008 two floors in the ne en-suite accommodation block on campus will be offered to postgraduate students on a 51 week tenancy. A newly refurbished residence in the City Centre called Llys Glas which is all en-suite was taken on by the university in September 2007 and again has a floor specifically set aside for postgraduate students. Accommodation is also available in a specially designated quiet area in Hendrefoelan Student Village. Rooms in all residences are single.
A number of self-contained flats can be found at Ty Beck House. There are also a small number of self-contained University managed flats that are suitable for couples without children.
The University provides a range of 1, 2 & 3 bedroom self-contained family flats at Ty Beck House.
One en-suite room in Beck House is designed for a wheelchair user. Postgraduates with severe mobility problems may be considered for places in Singleton Residences, but this accommodation is not normally available during the Easter vacation. There are a number of rooms suitable for visually impaired students and appropriate arrangements can be made in most residences for hearing-impaired students. Any student who has a disability or other special need, which may affect the allocation of accommodation, is encouraged to contact Residential Services and the Disability Office in Student Support Services as soon as their place at Swansea is confirmed.
In addition postgraduates can choose to live in Private Sector Accommodation. If assistance is required from Residential Services students should still complete the application form for accommodation.
Due to the longer length of these courses and early start dates the most suitable accommodation is at Hendrefoelan Student Village . Please be advised that as accommodation at Beck House and Singleton Residences is occupied by current students and conference visitors no new student accommodation will be available until Friday 19th September 2008. For Graduate Medical Students please follow the links and apply as a new undergraduate.
