CHRISTMAS CLOSURE AND BANK HOLIDAYS 2008 and 2009

The following Public and Statutory Holidays will apply in 2008 and 2009:

It has been agreed following consultation with Staff Side that full time staff will be required to use four of the “Other days” during the 2008 leave year and four of the “Other days” during the 2009 leave year, as detailed below.

CHRISTMAS CLOSURE 2008

The Christmas/New Year closure for 2008 will be from 5.00 p.m. on Tuesday, 23 December 2008 to 8.00 a.m. on Monday, 5 January 2009.  Buildings will be closed during this period.

In view of the timing of the University’s closure, the following arrangements will be made with regard to the allocation of the “Other days” element of staff’s leave entitlement (the following apply to full time staff, with part time staff being required to take appropriate leave on a pro rata basis): 

Four days to be taken from the 2008 entitlement at Christmas, i.e. 24 December, 29 December, 30 December and 31 December 2008, with one day being taken from the 2009 entitlement, i.e. 2 January 2009.

Christmas Closure 2009 

The Christmas/New Year closure for 2009 will be from 5.00 p.m. on Thursday, 24 December 2009 to 8.00 a.m. on Monday, 4 January 2010.  Buildings will be closed during this period. 

In view of the timing of the University’s closure, the following arrangements will be made with regard to the allocation of the “Other days” element of staff’s leave entitlement (the following apply to full time staff, with part time staff being required to take appropriate leave on a pro rata basis): 

Four days to be taken from the 2009 entitlement, one on Friday, 2 January 2009 and three at Christmas, i.e. 29 December, 30 December and 31 December 2009. 

Catering Department 

(52 week employees only) – as stated above, with the remaining two days to be taken by arrangement with the Catering Manager before the end of the Spring Term.   Normally, at least ten days annual leave to be taken during the Summer Vacation.  Three days annual leave, plus the three remaining fixed/other days (other than those reserved for the Christmas period) to be taken before the end of the Spring Term.  Annual Leave may not normally be taken during the first four weeks of the Autumn Term.  Members of staff wishing to make special arrangements for leave must make requests in writing to the Catering Services Manager, giving reasons, before the end of the Summer term. 

Halls of Residence

As stated above, the remaining two days at the discretion of the Halls Manager. 

Sports Centre Attendants 

To be notified separately. 

Estates – Cleaners

As stated above, the remaining two days at the discretion of the Director of Estates.

Night cleaning staff  

Other days to be taken by arrangement with the Director of Estates. 

Security Staff and Porters Working Night Shifts

Other days to be taken by arrangement with the Director of Estates.

All Other Estates Employees

As stated above, the remaining two days at the discretion of the Director of Estates.
